This dates from the early 18th century when the building was apparently a single storey thatched smallpox hospital. Our cellar also are reputed to have tunnels (now long ago sealed ) that link up to the churchyard of St Peters Church opposite the Pub. One tunnel is still visible that goes from the main beer cellar and under the High Street . Supposedly the building had links to local smuggling in the area and to the paupers graves in nearby Poorhouse Lane. https://redlionstpeters.vpweb.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=203140091 203140091
